La Casa de las Flores

In the Plaza Mayor we find one of the best preserved half-timbered houses, La Casa de las Flores, dating from 1862. It combines two styles, the half-timbered house and the Neo-Mudejar style. The entire lower part of the house is made of carved granite stone, and the front part of the façade is occupied by two balconies supported by four large wooden beams, wrought iron and half-timbered wood, filled with flowers and various plants to keep the colourful atmosphere all year round, as well as the six side balconies.

The first floor is made of stone with windows and doors made of granite, wrought iron and carved brick. The upper part of the building is made of perfectly preserved solid Moorish brick, with a "neo-Mudejar" style façade in which brick is the main element.

The separation of the different floors is made with several rows of bevelled bricks with different shapes and depths, achieving elegant ornaments.

The balconies deserve special attention. The two sides of the façade, as well as the twelve sides of the six balconies are made and carved following a studied form and ornamentation, on these projections and in the upper part finishing off the balconies there are several arched rows of worked bricks, bevelled and protruding from the façade. The façade as a whole is perfectly harmonised, typical of the "neo-Mudejar" style.

Along our walk we will find several examples of this style. There are many examples of this architectural style in Madrid.

Inside, inside, you will find the Tin Toy Museum, with more than three thousand pieces, a cultural space in which we can contemplate sections related to tin toys, which were enjoyed by children from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
