Centro Cultural Metropolitano

The Metropolitan Cultural Center of Quito, located in the historic center of the city, has been a World Heritage Site since 1978. Its mission is aligned with the objectives of the Metropolitan Development Plan 2012-2022, which seeks to strengthen Quito's identity through its cultural diversity and rich historical heritage. This institution is under the administration of the Secretariat of Culture of the Municipality and houses several spaces, such as the Alberto Mena Caamaño Museum, the Federico González Suárez Library, and the Itchimbía Cultural Center. The building occupied by the center was originally the San Gregorio Magno University, founded in 1622, and has had various uses throughout history, including the headquarters of the Central University and the National Congress. After a restoration in 2000, its spaces were adapted to include libraries, exhibition halls and the wax museum, expanding its cultural offerings.

The Itchimbía Cultural Center occupies the former Santa Clara Market, restored for art exhibitions and performances, while the Casa de Artes La Ronda offers a space for emerging artists and cultural activities in the La Ronda neighborhood.
