Jardines del Palacio de Cristal

The Crystal Palace Gardens are a beloved green area with amazing panoramic views of the Douro River and the Atlantic Ocean. It is situated in the parish of Massarelos in the Portuguese city of Porto.

The German landscape architect Émile David created these lovely gardens in the 1860s to enclose the Crystal Palace, which was later replaced by the Rosa Mota Pavilion in the 1950s.

A stunning collection of rhododendrons, camellias, araucarias, ginkgos, and beeches, as well as fountains and statues representing the several seasons, can be found in the Emilio David Garden, which is a part of the Crystal Palace Gardens.

The Acoustic Shell, the Chapel of Charles Albert of Sardinia, and the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library, which houses the Palace Gallery and was constructed in 1849 by the Princess of Montléart, surround the Avenida dos Tilos, which is this park's most significant axis. A restaurant and an esplanade with a view of the lake are close by. There are strategic vantage spots that offer expansive views of the Douro River and the city on this boulevard and in other locations. The chapel that the Princess of Montléart had built in honour of her brother, King Charles Albert, is located at the end of this avenue.

The Garden of Aromatic Plants, the Garden of Medicines, the Garden of Sprouting Cities (opened in 2009), and the Garden of Sentiments (opened in 2007), which is home to the monument of Dolor de Teixeira Lopes, are other examples of thematic gardens. The Rose Garden, which is enriched with key components of the city's cultural legacy, the Forest, and the Avenue of the Indian Chestnut Trees are other remarkable areas. Nearby, there are seven gorgeous California palm trees.

The Port Wine Museum and the Romantic Museum, both located in Quinta da Macieirinha, are close to the Crystal Palace Gardens. Also nearby is the Quinta Tait, which has gardens encircling the Tait House, where the Numismatic Cabinet is situated, and are home to collections of roses, camellias, queen's earrings, and a magnificent Liriodendrum tulipifera.

A design for the renovation of the Rosa Mota Pavilion was authorised on June 23, 2009, and it called for the construction of a new structure for business conventions near the lake. This project generated a great deal of debate and even gave rise to the Movement for the Defense of the Palace Gardens.

The concept was shelved in 2013.
