Ángel Mateos Museum

Located in Doñinos de Salamanca, just four kilometres from Salamanca, this unique museum surprises visitors with its brutalist architecture and the collection of concrete sculpture it houses. It is a unique museum, conceived by the artist himself as "a sculpture that contains many sculptures".

Inside it houses the sculptor's work, a collection of more than 110 works in concrete that shows the evolution of this plastic artist over three decades, from the initial expressionist figuration of the 1960s to the minimalist abstraction of his final stage in the 1990s.

His sculpture of maturity, framed within the framework of constructivist abstraction, is defined and distinguished by its monumental and architectural character, traits that are strengthened by the material he will faithfully use throughout his career, concrete. The identification between sculpture and material led the author himself to call it the Museum of Concrete, in clear homage to the material that gave meaning to his sculpture.

The building consists of three rooms that show the different stages of the sculptor; it was built by the artist himself in 1999, although it did not open its doors until 2002. After two years open under municipal management, it remained closed until 2018, when the sculptor's family set up a foundation to manage it. In 2019 it reopened its doors with regular opening hours. Today the opening period is from April to October.

The MÁM houses a collection of sculpture that is as fundamental to contemporary art as it is unknown to the general public. A priceless artistic jewel that is a must-see for any art lover.
