Matthias Church, also known as Our Lady's Church, is a Catholic church that is situated in Budapest.

The Church of Our Lady, also known as Matthias Church, was constructed during the reign of Béla IV, the first king to have a palace constructed on top of a mountain, close to a village, in honour of the Virgin Mary, Hungary's patron saint. According to church tradition, St. Stephen I, the first Hungarian king, constructed a religious structure in 1015 on the location of this church. All kings after Béla IV made some alterations, extending the structure and adding a tower and a gate (among them Louis I of Hungary and Sigismund of Hungary, who made Gothic modifications, and Matthias I of Hungary, who transformed the church in the Renaissance style). In truth, the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus, who renovated and repaired the church in the year 1470, gave it its current moniker, "Matthias' Church."

The Church of Our Lady was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman Turks seized Buda in 1541. Nearly 150 years later, when the Germanic troops retook the realm and drove the Turks out, it was restored to its original state. It became increasingly significant to the city's Christians after then.

It is one of Hungary's most exquisite eclectic churches, and it is located close to the Holy Trinity Statue, which was erected as a memorial to the 1709 plague.

During the renovation towards the end of the 19th century, it took on its current shape. Concerts for organ and classical music are also held here because of the outstanding acoustics. The best artists of the day (Bertalan Székely, Károly Lotz) created its frescoes and stained-glass windows.

In the Church of Our Lady, Franz Joseph I of Austria was crowned king of Hungary in 1867 by the Hungarian Archbishop of Strigonia, János Simor. Charles IV of Hungary was crowned on December 30, 1916, in the Church of Matthias by Archbishop of Strigonia János Csernoch. Decades later, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the passing of Franz Joseph I, and following the conclusion of World War I, the Hungarian people chose another member of the House of Habsburg-Lotaringia as their new monarch.
