The Cathedral of San Juan Bautista in Albacete is a cathedral of Catholic worship dedicated to the patron saint of Albacete, Saint John the Baptist. This cathedral has its origins in an old Mudejar temple from the end of the 13th century, on which the current cathedral began to be built in 1515 in Renaissance style, so that the old temple was being demolished as the new one progressed, and it was not until 1949 when it was finished with its current appearance, with its exterior in neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic styles.

It is located in the historic centre of the capital, on an old hill between the Cathedral and Virgen de los Llanos squares, one of the origins of the city. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, it is the main temple and episcopal see of the diocese of Albacete. Its interior houses the original image of the Virgen de los Llanos, the patron saint of the city, where she is venerated.

The interior decoration includes, among other elements, the paintings by Casimiro Escribá that fill its walls and which constitute one of the largest pictorial works in the world by a single artist, dedicated to episodes from the Bible.

The cathedral has two façades. The south façade has a neo-Romanesque doorway with three semicircular arched archivolts supported by three simple columns with capitals with vegetal motifs.

The main façade is in the Neo-Gothic style, with a square bell tower and a pointed arch doorway, above which there is a rose window. On the tympanum of this doorway there is a relief with the theme of baptism. In the Virgen de los Llanos square there is a replica of the Virgen de los Llanos and it is in this square where the Virgin is carried out in the May procession and where the hymn to the Virgen de los Llanos is sung.

As for its interior, the temple currently has three naves and three sections separated by four very elegant Ionic columns 13.65 metres high, perhaps the most beautiful of the Spanish Renaissance, not in vain, technically they were designed by Diego de Siloé and artistically by Jerónimo Quijano.
