La Pedriza is an archaeological site in Manzanares el Real, Madrid. At La Pedriza del Manzanares.
Late granite and leucogranites from the Hercynian Cycle form the soil at the archaeological site. The Sierra environment, in the Alta Sierra subenvironment, covers the southern and south-eastern slopes of La Pedriza de Manzanares.
The area has many Bronze Age sites but few additional communities. Tools and flint sculptures appear initially. The "Pilas Simétricas de la Peña Sagra" (Symmetrical Piles of Peña Sagra) are also cited.
Several Bronze Age sites are on platforms between granite outcrops with a wide visual area or in tiny shelters. They are always on the most protected slopes (east and southeast) and near together. These locations are most likely seasonal or dispersed settlements. Livestock farming must have dominated both societies. Shelters with schematic paintings are close to these towns.
Given the terrain, there may be more artistic enclaves. The population gap remained until the Medieval Ages, when Manzanares became important and built its castle. Ultimately, under the Mendoza dynasty, it flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries before waning.
