Dedicated to the joyful event of Jesus' birth, this façade presents a jubilant decoration in which every element evokes vitality. Focusing on the more human and familiar side of Jesus, popular details such as tools and domestic animals abound. Facing east (northeast), it captures the first rays of dawn, strengthening the notion of life and happiness associated with birth. This contrasts with the Passion façade, which symbolizes the death of Christ and receives the light of dusk. Gaudí meticulously analyzed the symbolism of every corner of the temple. The façade is divided into three archivolts, each housing a portico dedicated to the theological virtues: Hope on the left, Faith on the right and Charity in the center. Its culmination includes the bell towers in honor of St. Matthias, St. Jude Thaddeus, St. Simon and St. Barnabas. The construction process lasted from 1893 to 1936.
The original sculpture was created by Llorenç Matamala and Joan Matamala, with the collaboration of Carles Mani, who was responsible for wax molds for several figures on the façade. Later, Jaume Busquets, Joaquim Ros i Bofarull and Etsuro Sotoo also contributed, with Sotoo being the last to work on the façade, concluding his work in 2016.
