Gasset Park

The Gasset park is a 90,000 square meter park located in Ciudad Real (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain). It is the oldest park in the city.

The Gasset park was inaugurated in 1915 on land donated by Juan Manuel Treviño y Aranguren, next to the old train station.

In the 1920s the Fountain of "La Talaverana" was inaugurated, made like all the decoration of the Park in Ceramics of Talavera de la Reina.

In 1933, the sculpture of Rafael Gasset Chinchilla, a deputy for Ciudad Real, was erected, who was the one who brought water to Ciudad Real through the Pantano de Gasset, giving the park its name.

Throughout the 1930s, the statues of the "Cura de los Bichos" and the public library of the Park were installed. There is also the oldest fountain in Ciudad Real, the old fountain of "Hernán Pérez del Pulgar" previously located in the Plaza del Pilar.

At the southern end of the Park is the "Cruz de los Casados", a 15th century Humilladero Cross rebuilt several times, which commemorates the romantic and tragic story of a 15th century loving couple, Sancho and Blanca, from Ciudad Real and Miguelturra , who died to marry, since their parents were enemies and preferred to kill them when they fled to marry in secret.

It houses various species of trees and shrubs, both indigenous and acclimatized, and even from other latitudes (Atlantic, tropical, desert climate, etc ...).
