The former Banco de España is a structure in Ciudad Real, Spain. The former headquarters of the Banco de Espaa has been designated as a cultural asset.
Sebastián Rebollar designed the Banco de Espaa building in Ciudad Real in 1903. It is located at Plaza del Pilar, number 2. It is both the beginning and the end of the compositional and constructive procedures that are typical of an eclectic style. The façade proposes the use of brick and stone in tandem, forming a massive stacked order that closes the composition of the five openings on the building's two lower floors. The upper body is organised in a smaller order in accordance with the size of the openings, which are significantly smaller than those of the lower bodies.
The lower floor has a stone plinth from which the vertical openings on the main floor begin, openings that are balconies with a carefully designed stone lintel. The composition of the three sections is completed with a stone balustrade, but the interval of the pilasters located at the wall panel's limits is extended. The building's interior is organised around a central courtyard with a double height and zenithal lighting through a glazed section. It was used as a residential centre in the 2010s.
On 30 January 1996, the building was declared a cultural asset of interest in the category of monument by a decree published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha on 9 February of the same year (DOCM).
