The University of Alcalá maintains an intense academic and cultural life, with events and activities that combine tradition and innovation. One of the most emblematic events is the opening ceremony of the academic year, in which, following a tradition begun on the first day of the university's history, a procession of professors dressed in the academic attire of their respective faculties walks through the streets from the Magistral Cathedral to the historic Paraninfo, located in the former Colegio Mayor de San Ildefonso. At the end of the academic year, graduation ceremonies bring together students who have completed their undergraduate studies, accompanied by their families and professors, to receive from the hands of the rector the diploma certifying the completion of their degree. In addition, the university offers a varied cultural program throughout the year, including the AIEnRUTa series of classical and flamenco music, the Cine Club sessions, dance performances, the Escuela de Escritura workshops, art exhibitions, theater performances and the Operastudio project, dedicated to training in the lyrical arts. The Festival de la Palabra (Festival of the Word), organized around the awarding of the Cervantes Prize, brings together literary and cultural activities of the highest level. In addition, there are other initiatives such as Mobigame, dedicated to video games and digital mobility; the International Exhibition of Graphic Humor, where the Ibero-American Quevedos Prize - considered the equivalent of the Cervantes Prize in the field of graphic humor - is awarded; performances by the University Tuna; concerts by Universijazz Alcalá; open days known as Open Days; and numerous activities linked to the world of literature and the arts. This program reflects the commitment of the University of Alcalá to the integral education of its students and its projection as a center for the promotion of culture in its surroundings.
