Torre de la iglesia del Salvador

Spain's Church of El Salvador in Teruel is an Aragonese Mudejar structure that was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986. It was built in the 14th century, during the height of the Kingdom of Aragon, when Alfonso II's privileges allowed the Muslim community to continue to live in the city.

Using the pointed arch on which it stands, Salvador Street runs underneath it, allowing these sides to be free of outbuildings in contrast to the rest of the base, which is enclosed between homes. It was constructed next to the El Salvadorian church. It is clear that the tower of the San Martn church bears similarities.

With two concentric square towers separated by staircases, the tower mimics the design of an Almohad minaret. The internal tower features a bell tower with pointed and semicircular arches and three superimposed storeys with ribbed vaulting. Mixtilinear arches, sebka, and green and white glazed ceramics make up the majority of its ornamentation. Graffiti from the time of construction may be observed on the plastered walls, and there are 122 steps to climb.

It was the first Mudejar tower in Teruel that could be seen once the restoration work was finished between 1991 and 1993. The Centro de Interpretación de la Arquitectura Mudéjar Turolense is located within its three interior rooms, in addition to the bell tower and perspective (Interpretation Centre of Mudejar Architecture in Teruel).

The aforementioned landmark will be shown on one of the two-euro coins that will be in circulation during the first quarter of 2020.

In 1986, UNESCO designated the Teruel city's Mudejar monumental complex as a World Heritage Site.

El Salvador's tower contains display components for the interpretation of Mudejar architecture in its three internal rooms and bell tower. The social phenomenon in which it originated, the materials, and the methods of building combine to make it the sole form of art that is wholly Spanish, the height of which was attained in Teruel.
