Sacristía y claustro

The main cloister of the monastery is attached to the north wall of the church, with which it communicates through a Romanesque door. Its construction was carried out in several phases, replacing previous rooms, such as the chapter house. It is estimated that it was already planned around 1162-1163, based on the architectural style of its smooth, pointed vaults, characteristic of early Cistercian art. Although its location to the north of the church does not contradict monastic norms, it is unusual, as the cloisters are traditionally located to the south of the church.

The chapter house stands out for its proportions and its magnificent ribbed vault ceiling. The refectory is still in use by the monks, while the kitchen, restored and equipped, is part of the tourist route and serves as a representative example of Cistercian kitchens. Opposite the refectory, in the courtyard, rises the templete del lavabo, a 14th century construction that stands out for its proportioned arches and remarkable architectural beauty.

Despite the damage suffered by the monastery during the 19th and early 20th centuries, the main cloister has been restored, allowing us to appreciate its sober and harmonious arches, dating from the late 12th and early 13th centuries.

There are also other minor cloisters:

The Cloister of San Esteban or of the infirmary is located at the eastern end of the monastic enclosure, it has an almost regular floor plan. Its short sides have 4 and 5 semicircular arches respectively, while the long sides have 8 and 9 pillars without capitals. The decoration is simple, with an impost of vegetal motifs. This cloister already existed in 1228 and was rebuilt in the 15th century.

The locutorio cloister is located next to the east wall of the chapter house and combines capitals in the Romanesque tradition with Gothic arch moldings, reflecting the stylistic transition between the two periods.
