The Vilches' Renaissance-era palace can be found in Jaén. With its back to the Plaza de la Constitución or Plaza de las Palmeras in the Plaza del Deán Mazas, the palace is a bit out of the way. As of 2010, it is protected by monument status.
From the 16th century, the building's beautiful Renaissance main façade stands out with its corner façade of six semicircular arches supported by eight Doric columns; among them are busts of heroes from antiquity. Despite the extensive renovations, the interior has managed to keep the original Renaissance feel. Despite its status as a National Historic Landmark, a bank now calls it home for its corporate headquarters. This palace is all that remains of Jaén's historic Plaza del Mercado, the city's central plaza. The 19th-century renovations produced features like the courtyard in the middle of the building and the grand staircase. A BBVA bank branch operates out of the building now.
