Palacete de Ayora

The Ayora mansion and its garden were built in the 19th century in the Valencian eclectic and modernist style.

The building was commissioned by the merchant José Ayora in 1900 and built by the Valencian architect Peregrín Mustieles Cano. It consists of a ground floor and two floors. It has a central square tower with an octagonal dome and a top in keeping with the general style, plus the date 1900 on the front and an image of Mercury.

In keeping with the date of its construction, the building has a marked Valencian modernist character, with a mixture of classicist style and a combination of different materials on its walls, which give it a certain polychromy.

The interior of the main floor is sumptuously decorated, with gilded and polychrome ceilings with relief soffits in the centre, surrounded by a large frame of mouldings and coffered ceilings. Two paintings, apparently in oil, stand out, with allegorical female figures, winged genie and plant motifs from an excellent school of painting.

Inside, there are some singular parts, such as niches covered with veneras, balconies decorated with fine ornamentation and the noble interior staircase with square balusters.

On the upper floor, the roof stands out, with thick radial beams and with a notable slope from the body that supports the tower to the perimeter of the building.

The Ayora garden represents a great example of a monumental bourgeois garden in the city of Valencia, with a style typical of the modernist period. It contains a fountain with non-original sculpture, as the only original ornaments that were preserved were ceramic benches, together with a wide variety of plants and trees. It covers a total of 17,000 square metres and is rectangular in shape with entrance gates on all four sides.
