THE OTHER ENTRANCE OF THE HOUSE

Just outside the office door, on the side of the door leading to the outside, you can see a piece of furniture with a mirror and a bunch of walking sticks. They belonged to Ramón Otero Pedrayo. It seems that, in 1929, on the day he was due to read his acceptance speech at the Galician Royal Academy, the writer went for a walk to the Tower of Hercules in A Coruña. He was given a lift by a taxi driver who, in an oversight, left the car without braking. The vehicle began to speed down the slope, heading towards the sea, and Otero and his wife had to jump out of the car while it was moving. In that accident he injured his leg and as he grew up he always suffered from it.
