Gülhane Park, also known as Gülhane Parkı in Turkish, is a historic space within Istanbul, Turkey, located in the Eminönü neighborhood. Originally part of the outdoor garden of the iconic Topkapı Palace, the park has become one of the oldest and most extensive in the city.
Its history dates back to 1912, when part of the outer garden was transformed into a public park, offering recreational areas and cafes for citizens. Later, a zoo was added, and in 1926, the first statue of Atatürk in Turkey, created by Heinrich Krippel, was erected.
Recently, the park has undergone a significant renovation. During this process, the zoo and recreation areas were removed, allowing for more open spaces. New walking trails were designed and the lagoon was modernized. With the removal of the concrete structures, the park regained its natural appearance, revealing century-old trees from the 19th century.
