THE LAST WRITING OF OTERO PEDRAYO

Before entering the next room, the pantry, take a look at the painting at the entrance. It is the last text that Ramón Otero Pedrayo wrote during his lifetime. It is a long article, with almost no corrections, as was usual for him, written for the Ourense newspaper La Región. If you look at the date on which it was signed, you will see that he finished it barely forty-eight hours before he died.

At this point, it is necessary to point out that the work of this writer, a true polygraph, is immense and very diverse. Suffice it to say that, even today, some texts remain unpublished. He was, as you surely know, a man extremely committed to the Galician language even in such difficult times as the post-war period. Today we know that in those years, when he could only publish in Spanish, he preferred to do so using pseudonyms (Santiago Amaral, Luis Peñanofre..., are some of the best known). He did not feel he was a free writer and tried to convey his discomfort.
