THE ENTRANCE DOOR

According to what can be read engraved on the lumieira, on the stone you see above the main door, the construction is from the 18th century: This was made by S(eñor) D(on) Benito Sotelo in the year 1764. We think that more than "making", at this date a primitive construction must have been reformed or remodelled. These words of the writer, taken from a letter he wrote to Antón Fraguas on 19 September 1945, give a good account of the continuous remodelling that the house underwent: "On the 3rd of August a great and honourable countryman of yours died, Mr. Bieito Doval Peleteiro, from Valongo, a great master of stone and stonework, architrave and perpiaño. I was very sorry for him, as we spent many good hours talking about old things in this house where he made tanks, and walls, and arches and vaults".

Otero Pedrayo was very fond of this place. A good example of this is that he dedicated small literary texts to many of its corners. One of Bocarribeira's poems undoubtedly refers to La puerta de entrada. Poemas para leer y quemar, the only collection of poems that the author published during his lifetime. It reads as follows:

Alá, ó fondo, o portón:
laio do portón,
salouco da cancela...
quen saíu, cecais non volte
a entrar por ela.

Translation:

There, in the background, the gate:
lament of the gate,
hiccups of the gate...
whoever goes out, let him not return
to enter through it again.
