Castillo de Belmonte

The castle of Belmonte stands majestically on the hill of San Cristobal, dominating the landscape surrounding the town of Belmonte, in the southwest of the province of Cuenca. This fortress, of great historical and architectural relevance, was officially recognized on June 3, 1931, when it was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument within the National Artistic Treasure.

With the passage of time, and after the updating of the categories of heritage protection in Spain, the castle became listed as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), the highest figure of heritage protection. In addition to its defensive and monumental value, the enclave stands out for its excellent state of conservation and for being a representative testimony of the military architecture of the 15th century in Castile.
